Ready for The Midnight?

Synthwave is an electro music genre inspired by the 80s sonorities, The Midnight really know how to play that, making you feel emotions, relaxing and stimulating your mind.

Tell me about your story, where does your passion in music come from?

Both me (Tim, the producer) and Tyler come from musical families and have played music all our life. I grew playing the drums, just like my dad. Then I got into producing and writing when I was around 17 years old.

What are you inspired by?

Music and movies. I listen to all kinds of styles, not just Synthwave. And I get a lot of my inspiration from watching movies. The visual element is a big part for me.

Why “the Midnight”?

It took us over a year to come up with the right name. I had a list of names I and a few of them had  “The Midnight” in them. Like “The Midnight —“. I think it was literally on the day we were uploading our first EP “Days of Thunder” to Bandcamp and still hadn’t settled on a name. I remember pulling up the list and going through the names and I looked at Tyler and said “why not just The Midnight?”. He was like “yup, I like it.” And that was that.

What do you try to express through your music?

Tyler said it best when he wrote our mission statement on our bandcamp: “There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass – the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories.” That is basically what The Midnight is.

What’s the best thing about being a musician?

We get to express our true selves, That’s a gift and a luxury we never take for granted. Whether other people like our music or not, is out of our control. What we CAN control, however, is the process of making it. Creating something that invigorates us.

What’s your next project?

We’ll be dropping a new EP next year around summer time and also start to play a few more live shows in select cities in the US.
