How did fashion designing become an important part of your life?
I wanted to be an air hostess when I was a kid. In Class 5, my mom asked me what I would do if the plane got hijacked? And my instant reply to that was 'ok ill be a fashion designer then'. And it just kind of stuck and here I am today!
What’s the concept of your latest collection?
My collection is called Two Halves, and I was inspired by the undiscovered artist that's actually hiding in each one of us. It's in the magic mess that we might be too scared to find when we look inside ourselves. And no matter how much a misfit we think we are, there is space in this vast universe to be exactly who we are meant to be! When we come together and create we can bring about massive change. Even if one of us is missing there's a void waiting for us to fillup. Through this collection, I hope to inspire someone to bring out the artist in them.
What does inspire you the most?
Art inspires me a lot. Indian art and craft forms have always piqued my interest. I want to tell stories that are quietly losing out. But inspiration never stops at just that. I do find it in books, museums, a Tv show, anything that actually transports me to a different dimension inspires me.
How does the place you live in affect your style?
My collections are usually inspired by Indian art forms and are an eclectic mix of ideologies. And are very colorful just like everything around here. But if you ask me about my personal style I'm the polar opposite. I wear almost only black, white and grey. Of course, now a lot of color is coming in thanks to Pariha and I always say Pariha is my alter ego. The collections are so colorful while I'm not.
What’s the future of fashion and art according to you?
It's so amazing to see how the lines are blurring. Art and Fashion are a creative expression of oneself. I do believe Fashion is just another form of art. Art is everything and is in everything.
How is your life as a business woman?
Wow, I don't think I've ever sat and thought about this. Life as a businesswoman has mostly been unlearning a lot of things. I used to like having things in control, a set ideology that by this year I should've done this much, etc, but life isn't like that. It's so uncertain and that's the best part. I don't know what tomorrow will bring. One phone call, email can change my life. Also, I work crazy hours, I don't know what day or time it is sometimes. I've also learnt to stop chasing and just being. And when I look back at these few years, my plans were so tiny. The universe has just blown them up.
What’s your favorite song?
I listen to wayyy to much music but if I have to pick one right now it will be 'Blood Sweat and Tears' by BTS, because it changed my life.
