Twisted lingerie by Sophie Thorne

Madonna would be proud of it! Finally some lingerie that is not usual, simple and common but something more original. Bondage inspired, this collection is strong but also comfortable and sensual. It’s time to feel free to express ourselves even under our clothes without fear or preconceptions. Let’s see how Twisted lingerie was born.

“Twisted was born out of a desire to build an accessibly-priced brand, without compromising on design or production quality. I’ve always been very clear on the problem I was looking to solve: I could pick up a new dress from Zara or Topshop for £30 but I wasn’t able to find well-made and well-priced provocative lingerie – the kind that makes you feel GORGEOUS – to wear underneath it. I really believe that women shouldn’t have to wait for a special occasion to treat themselves to beautiful lingerie (the same goes for wearing it, of course!) so I wanted to give them a reason to make every day that little bit naughtier without breaking the bank.“

What’s the concept of your latest collection?

Madonna’s Rebel Heart album cover served as an early inspiration for the Xenia collection. The dichotomy of the rebel with her face bound accurately reflected a world where many women still feel unable to truly express themselves for fear of repurcussion. The collection is about taking control and not being shy about it, a homage to the women who want a little bit of everything…with a cherry on top.

What inspires you the most?

The women around me – I’m constantly inspired by and in awe of them. From the stay-at-home mums trying to do a million things at once and the working mothers who manage to find time for everything to the women who work 60+ hour weeks in male-dominated industries and the ladies who are trying to start or run their own businesses. But despite women’s many achievements in all walks of life, I think we live in a world where many women still feel hugely conflicted and repressed about communicating their desires (and I don’t just mean sexually). I want to peel back the layers of what it means to feel empowered, blur the lines between underwear and outerwear with dynamic mix and match collections which make a statement, whether they’re concealed under a suit or worn later that night in the bedroom.

What kind of woman do you imagine wearing your lingerie?

I don’t really believe there is a Twisted Lingerie woman. Whether you concel your Twisted side under your workwear or style your underwear as outwear, I think that lingerie is a way of feeling confident. Lingerie should be something that women buy and wear for themselves that makes them look and feel as good as they deserve, regardless of age, size, relationship status.

What kind of materials do you use?

One of the most important areas of the designs was the choice of fabrics; it’s what I believe sets me aside from other brands in a similar space. Although I want to bring customers lingerie at an affordable price point, I don’t want to do it at the expense of quality fabrics. Our debut collection uses soft elastic and a delicate sheer mesh, both sourced from one of the leading material manufacturers in Europe. It’s hugely important for me to be able to guarantee the quality of the fabrics used in my collections and to continue supporting industry in countries in Europe, even though realistically it costs over five times what it would have done if I had sourced it from Asia.

What’s your next project?

I don’t want to give too much away but we have some exciting collaborations coming up over the Christmas period and will be looking to launch our next collection in March / April next year.
